22 Dec Is information power?
Information is an organized set of processed data that constitute a message that changes the state of knowledge of the subject receiving that message.
On this basis we can conclude that for data to be useful and to be considered information there must be a search criteria, an analysis phase and a correct interpretation. In that case, then yes, information can be power.
And how do we apply this to buying a home? If we’ve found a house that may be what we are looking for we have to find information, analyse it and make a decision depending on the outcome.
The first phase is to know what and how to ask. Ask the administrator about the situation of the property in terms of reforms, both done and pending, extra contributions and possible conflicts in the community. Ask the porter, the neighbours, all information will be useful.
Moreover, one must know how to search. Find registration information, market information on prices in the area, do a deep investigation on the possible availability of similar properties in the area, find out how long has the property been on sale, information of interest on the neighbourhood, etc.
It is also important to know how to complete the information obtained from personal observation of the house with an expert to inform us about the state of the facilities, possibility of reforms or maintenance needs.
At this point you have to know how to use the information to determine what is relevant and decisive in the decision process, so we can make the best decision.
In that way, upon completing and analysing the information, we are in the best position to decide on the purchase of our future home.
