Why I like the “Retiro” neighborhood

I love Madrid. I like all its neighborhoods, each one with its charms, its corners, its people and its special moment of the day. Some neighborhoods are a classic in our lives, others we have discovered over the years, but always discovering something new in each one of them, their hidden secrets, remodelled squares, transformed streets, new premises, evolving environments, new constructions or old and reformed. There is always something to discover in each area of Madrid.

There is a neighborhood that I like more every day, it has everything. It’s the “Retiro” neighborhood, often a great unknown if it weren’t for the park. But the neighborhood is much more than the Grand Park El Retiro. We are in the centre of Madrid, next to the Salamanca district and very close to the Paseo de Recoletos, the Plaza de Cibeles, the Art triangle with the main museums, next to the Puerta de Alcalá and if we have to leave Madrid, we are immediately on the M30.

It is one of the areas of the centre of Madrid that evolves more without losing its identity, the population is renewed rejuvenating the neighborhood, the old time premises are updated, new ones appear with all kinds of services and it is becoming one of the city’s gastronomic areas of reference. Without forgetting its boulevards full of terraces during most of the year, its traditional houses, some more stately than others, but always maintaining their own style.

And although it may be obvious, we can’t fail to mention the Parque del Retiro, 125 Hectares of historic garden and public park with over 15,000 trees including the Ciprés Calvo (the bald cypress), the oldest tree in Madrid. In its diversity, we can enjoy different gardens, the rose garden, the pond, palaces, fountains, statues and especially its walks, its cultural activity and its atmosphere at any time of the week.

The neighborhood of Retiro is diverse, it’s healthy, authentic, very Madrid, it’s rich in services, cheerful and bright, it’s elegant and welcoming and it’s young because it’s in a process of renovation with a long way to go.

And if you’re looking for a house, this is one of the districts in Madrid to consider. Central, next to traditional neighborhoods like Salamanca, near Justicia or Chamberí but less saturated, with all services, good atmosphere, good houses, unbeatable views and better prices.

Go ahead, if you are looking for a flat in Madrid, don’t forget Retiro!
